Purpose of the course:

Presentation of study topics of monuments and historical centers and their environment with the help of photointerpretation methods, photogrammetry, remote sensing, geoinformation systems, and laser technology.

Educational objectives:

The objectives of the course are the acquisition of the ability to interpret - photointerpretative analysis and study of images (aerial photographs and satellite images) that include the environment of the historical center, the historical center as such and each monument within the historical center, the assessment of environmental conditions (hydrological, geotechnical , urban issues), the evaluation of further approach possibilities with photogrammetric methods, and in particular the use of laser technology (to create 3D models of monuments).

Analysis of the lesson:

The necessary knowledge of photogrammetry, photo interpretation, remote sensing, geoinformation systems and laser technology (theoretical presentations) are given for the above visa. Also, special importance is given to the preparation of relevant exercises with reference to important historical centers of the Greek area (laboratory exercises) and to examples of the application of laser technology (data acquisition, processing).

Work or exercise:

The exercises concern the interpretation - study of aerial photographs and satellite images (use of digital image processing software) and reception - processing (with appropriate software) of laser scanner data.

It is intended that most of the exercises be completed in the laboratory.

Teaching support:

Notes in digital format and relevant bibliography (mainly from the internet), training on the Laboratory's computers.
