GEOTECHNICAL AND GEO-ARCHEOLOGICAL SUBJECTS

The goal of the course is for the graduate student, after successful attendance, to be able to deal with earth engineering problems at the application level that affect the superstructure of monuments or the highlighting of underground antiquities.

The purpose of the course is the systematic presentation of the effects of the subsoil in the promotion and preservation of monuments and archaeological sites and the description of interventions to deal with problems related to unstable soils, underground water, etc.

The following subjects will be developed in the courses:

Importance of the geotechnical factor and its inclusion in the integrated approach to the highlighting and preservation of monuments and archaeological finds. Monuments in unstable or problematic slopes. Pitfall and erosion problems. Front and bottom stability of archaeological excavations. Pit drainage.

Modern projects in areas of old cities: The safety of new constructions and the limitation of the destruction of old ones.

Adaptation of the foundation and bracing solution to the existing geoarchaeological data. Support of deep excavations for a limited or long time. Experiences from geotechnical interventions in monuments.
