Stratis Ioannis

Mr. Ioannis Stratis was born in Thessaloniki (May 8, 1945). He graduated from the 4th Boys' Gymnasium of Thessaloniki (1963). After entrance exams, he enrolled in the Chemistry Department of AUTH in 1963, finished his studies normally in 1968 [after a six-month compulsory thesis, a two-month compulsory internship, written & oral degree exams)] and was sworn in in March 1969. The same year he was appointed assistant in the Analytical Chemistry laboratory from which he also received his Doctoral Diploma.

He did postdoctoral studies at the Universities of Bristol, Bielefeld and Sofia. He organized international conferences and seminars, gave lectures at various Universities in Europe, served as Quest Editor in international scientific journals, participated in various research projects (at 30 he was Scientific Manager). He was elected Assistant Professor in 1985, Deputy in 1989 and Professor in 1996 in the Department of Chemistry from which he retired in 2012.

He taught in the departments of Chemistry, Pharmacy and History - Archeology of AUTH. He introduced the Course of Archaeometry at the undergraduate level (in the departments of Chemistry and History and Archeology in 1984). He is responsible for the courses "Glass and Glazes, Ceramic Objects" and "Atomic Spectroscopy" in the interdisciplinary Master's Program of the Polytechnic School entitled "Protection, Maintenance & Restoration of Cultural Monuments, Works of Art & Mechanisms".

He collaborated with scientists from the Archaeological and Museum of Thessaloniki. He is the co-author of six Scientific/Educational books and responsible for two editions.

He was Director of the Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry, member of the seven-member board of the AUTH Research Committee, founding Vice-President of the branch of the Hellenic Society "Protection of the Environment and Cultural Heritage" in Thessaloniki and its first elected president. (continues as an ordinary member of). He was president of the Youth of Epirotiki Estia Thessaloniki and vice-president of the Association of Chemists of Northern Greece.

He has published 115 research papers in international journals, has more than 3,500 references. He participated in many international & national conferences with personal oral presentations. He has supervised nine PhD theses and co-supervised two others, more than twenty-five master theses (the last two completed in 2021) and more than fifty undergraduate theses, He has been an invited author of conservation science articles as well as an invited speaker at international conferences . He has written articles in the local newspaper of Hortiatis.

He is married to Despina Eleftheriadou, they have two daughters, a grandson and three granddaughters, with whom he lives harmoniously.
