Tzachili Iris

Iris Tzahili is an archaeologist, emeritus professor of Prehistoric Archeology at the Department of History and Archeology of the University of Crete. She was for many years a partner in the excavation of Akrotiri Thira and in charge of the excavation at the Summit Sanctuary of Vrysina in Crete. Since 2007 he has been participating in the program "Timeless island cultures, the case of Thirasia". He founded the Center for the Study and Conservation of Archaeological Fabrics, which publishes the magazine Arachni. He dealt with the history of archeology (The dawn of Aegean Prehistory, Excavations in Thera and Therasia in the 19th century, Kathimerini publications) the fortunes and adventures of weaving and clothing as a technology and as the main way of shaping the public image of people (Weaving and weavers in the Prehistoric Aegean, University Press of Crete), metalwork (Aegean Metallurgy in the Bronze Age, Ta Pragmata publications), writing topics, Minoan ways of representing and historicity of landscapes, Minoan pottery. She is particularly concerned with the rendering of depth and perspective as a way of pictorial rendering of nature in the Minoans (Vrysinas I Minoan Visual Landscapes, Pragmata publications) and the public life of the Minoans as shown by the connection of the political and religious element in the so-called Summit Sanctuary.
