EXPLOITATION AND PROJECTION OF THE MONUMENTS OF CIVILIZATION- MULTIMEDIA

The purpose of the course is:

Familiarity with audio and video systems and their application in a computer environment. Download, store, edit and transfer audio and video.
The electromagnetic detection of soil properties and structural elements of cultural monuments.
The presentation of the possibilities of combining the methods of multimedia technology with the methods and techniques of Geographical Information Systems. Existing capabilities, applications and their developments.
The modern special methods and instruments for recording monuments and archaeological sites.
The presentation of the possibilities of GIS in the development of multimedia. Presentation of the potential contribution of GIS and the combination of GIS and multimedia in highlighting monuments

The objectives of the course are:

The training of specialist scientists in the use of multimedia. The collection, transfer and production of audio-visual material through peripheral PC systems (camera, scanner, microphone, film, etc.). Image composition with graphic electronic methods. Database development, archiving, searching and classification of electronic material. The publication of multimedia material in electronic forms (CD-ROM, web site).
The development of user interaction environment.
The mapping-detection of properties of areas that host cultural monuments as well as elements of the monuments themselves with the aim of revealing the pathological causes and guiding restoration interventions.

The following subjects will be developed in the course:

Introduction to Multimedia

Computers and multimedia, applications of multimedia (Education, presentations, viewing artwork), perspectives of multimedia.

Recording and Processing of Multimedia Material

Digitization of sound, still and moving images with the help of suitable peripheral PC devices (sound-video card, scanner). Processing of the material through specialized software.

Storage of Multimedia Material

Compression, storage and archiving of multimedia material on hard disk drives. Transferring and recording the material on high capacity media (CD-ROM optical discs).
Electromagnetic radiation and transmission-reception devices. Electromagnetic properties of materials. Reflection from stratified and inhomogeneous media. Measurements of properties of soil samples and/or structural elements of constructions. Calibration and focusing of detection devices. Reversal methods.
Measuring instruments, elements of measuring devices.
A brief introduction to multimedia. Types of data used. Programs for creating multimedia applications. Multimedia applications and G.I.S. maps. Application examples.
2D – 3D impressions with modern geodetic methods and instruments.
CAD and other PC applications for preparation and processing of impression data with end receiver multimedia applications for monuments.
Collaboration with special document processing applications
