HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE & DEVELOPMENT OF SETTLEMENTS & TOWNS
The purpose of the course is the brief presentation of the architectural creation in Greece through a historical review, which begins from prehistoric times and ends around the middle of the 20ου th century. The deepening of the subject, through which the student practices and in the field of methodology, will be achieved with similar tasks, which will be discussed during the course.
The long-term approach to the architectures of the past, through various analyses, methods, examination of the conditions of creation (technical, social, spiritual, economic) aims at the global consideration of the architecture of the examined time period, a necessary condition for the protection and restoration of the architectural heritage. This comprehensiveness is complemented by the knowledge that the student will acquire from the course Y06a "Building technology of historical structures".
More specific objectives of the course:
The examined topics of the history of architecture with reference to representative samples, to their creators, to the forms, and typology to the innovations of their solutions, to the functional elements, will contribute to the respect and protection of the architectural tradition. They also contribute to the better planning of modern architecture, to the correct treatment of the old-new relationship and to creative proposals for new uses.
